- What can’t be done with the MetaMask integration?
There are some limitations and differences with the LIQUID app.
Syncronize multiple wallets: You can synchronize multiple accounts with MetaMask, but only from one wallet. If you have your main wallet synced with MetaMask and you want to additionally synchronize a passphrase wallet, you need to unsync the main wallet first.
Easily verify transaction details: The LIQUID app displays your unsigned transaction QR-code together with the transaction details. This makes it easy to verify the transaction details on ZERO before signing it.
MetaMask doesn’t show the transaction details, just the QR-code. This makes it more difficult to verify the transaction details. You need to make a note or remember the transaction details to verify them on your ZERO. The most important thing you want to verify that it hasn’t been modified is the receiver's address.
Only EVM-based chains: MetaMask has the option to extend its functionality with ‘snaps’. These are not supported in this integration. You can only use EVM-based chains; These are based on Ethereum and use the same address format, starting with ‘0x’.
- Should I import my secret recovery phrase from MetaMask in ZERO?
No. While it is possible to import your MetaMask seed phrase in ZERO, this will provide no extra security at all.
MetaMask is a so-called ‘hot’ wallet: the key is generated and stored in a browser or app that is connected to the internet. On the ZERO, the private key is generated by a unique procedure and stored 100% offline using hardware made for this purpose.
- Can I transact tokens that are not supported on the ZERO with MetaMask?
Yes you can!
When you receive a token of a chain that is not supported on an address of your ZERO, its private key is protected by ZERO.
You can simply add any network that is supported in Metamask, create transactions and sign them with your ZERO, like you would do for a coin or network that is supported on ZERO.
All logic to create transactions is in MetaMask. ZERO is ‘only’ needed to sign.
However: when signing, it is possible that the token is not named correctly in the verification screen of ZERO.
- How do I disconnect my ZERO from MetaMask?
You can go through the same steps you followed to connect your wallet:
In the MetaMask browser extension or app, click on your account to open the “Select an account” screen. Then click “Add account or hardware wallet“ → “Add hardware wallet”. In the next screen, click “QR-based” and click “Continue”.
Because you already have a hardware wallet synced, you will get a list of your ETH accounts instead of the camera.
Below the list of ETH accounts on your ZERO is a link ‘Forget this device’. Clicking this will disconnect ZERO from MetaMask.
